If you’ve ever filed a claim after a car accident, tornado, or some other type of disaster, you know that insurance adjusters can be ruthless in their efforts to devalue your claim. Here, we’ll outline some common tactics insurance adjusters use to devalue your claim. 


 Rushing You Into a Conversation


One common tactic is rushing you into a conversation before you have a chance to understand your rights fully. The adjuster will call you shortly after the accident and ask you to give a recorded statement. They will use phrases like “let’s just chat” or “I just have a few quick questions.” However, these questions are designed to elicit information that can devalue the claim. Don’t let the insurance adjusters rush you into a conversation. Consult with an experienced attorney before you talk to an insurance adjuster.


Using Statements Against You


Another way insurance adjusters try to devalue your claim is by using your statements against you. For example, they may take something you said out of context or misinterpret what you meant to make it seem like you are not entitled to as much compensation as you are. Be careful about what you say to the insurance adjuster, and avoid giving them any shot that they can use against you.


Asking to See Your Medical Records


Insurance adjusters will request your medical records to find evidence that you have pre-existing conditions that they can use to deny your claim or that your injuries or damages are not as severe as you say.
